Home Sweet Home...or is it? Tips to Stage Your Home to Sell!

One of the best ways to sell your home fast, without having to slash your price, is to stage it correctly before putting it on the market. You may think that staging a home means you have to spend hours and thousands of dollars making it look like something out of House Beautiful, but that’s not the case at all. In fact, many of the changes you can make yourself to stage your home cost next to nothing and take very little time.

Do a Deep Clean

The best way to stage your home for a quick sale is to do a deep clean. You'll want to tackle all of the high-traffic areas, such as the family room, kitchen, and entryway. Remove all clutter from these spaces, but don't go overboard. If you have an open floor plan, focus on these areas first and then move on to other high-traffic rooms in the house.

Depersonalize

A number one way to depersonalize your space is by removing personal photos and other items that may have sentimental value. This will allow potential buyers the opportunity to envision themselves living in the space without any distractions. A good idea for putting these items away would be either in a box or in an album.

Get Rid of Clutter

Clutter not only takes up space, but can create the feeling of a cluttered, dirty home. Reduce clutter in your home by going through your things and getting rid of anything you don't need or want anymore. Here are some ideas: - Donate old clothes to a charity that will resell them. You'll feel good about giving back and someone else might get a bargain on something new! - Take an inventory of your kitchen gadgets and cookware then donate anything you don't use regularly or that doesn't have much sentimental value for you. You may even be able to sell some of these items online or at a yard sale for extra money!

Rearrange or Remove Furniture

You may not think that you have the time or energy to change your home’s current setup, but there are a few simple ways you can spruce up your space in preparation for selling. Whether you need to rearrange the furniture or remove pieces entirely, here are some strategies for getting started:

- Move your furniture around. Sometimes the best way to create a good flow in a room is by moving the pieces around and seeing what new arrangements might work better. Place couches near windows and chairs near tables so people have somewhere comfortable to sit while they eat or read.

Turn on the Lights

This may seem like a no-brainer, but most people neglect one of the best ways to make your space look so much bigger and brighter. With all the natural light you can get in your home, turn on as many lights as possible! Even if you have an artificial plant by the window or a lamp by the couch, turning them on will help open up your space and make it feel less claustrophobic. The brighter and more open your space feels, the more inviting it will be for potential buyers.
